So you’ve scored a first date. Congrats! Here are 6 conversation tips to make sure that your first date is a success:
Tip # 1: Passions
Talk about the things you enjoy. Do you enjoy cooking? Sports? Movies? Traveling? Pets? When you speak about the things you love, your date will drawn in by your excitement. Don’t forget to ask your date about their passions as well. You will give your date the opportunity to talk about interests that give them great joy and this will make your date excited to speak with you. Moreover, you’ll be able to gauge whether or not
you share common interests.
Tip # 2: Avoid the past
Your first date is not the time to air your dirty laundry. It is simply an opportunity to find out whether or not you the two of you have chemistry and common interests. Therefore, I would not recommend that you talk about your exes or ask your date about their past exes on a first date.
Tip # 3: Compliment your date
An easy way to break the ice is to compliment your date. It could be something as simple as their smile, their haircut, shoes, their choice of meal / drink that they ordered. Complimenting your date will put your date at ease and in turn, put you at ease as well.
Tip # 4: Got any brothers or sisters?
Talking about your date’s siblings is usually a safe topic. However, you may want to steer clear of talking about your date’s parents (maybe one his / her parent (s) died as a kid or they may be divorced/ separated).
Tip # 5: Inject some humor
You want to show your date that you take him / her seriously. However, you do not want to come off as stiff either. So definitely make sure to lighten things up, crack some jokes and have some good laughs.
Tip # 6: Make it a dialogue!
You want to make this a two way experience. Yes, ask your date questions. Yes, speak about yourself. But it’s all about balance; open up about yourself with your date and also make your date feel special by asking them interesting questions.
Don’t stress about your first date. Make sure to relax and have fun!
